EU legal guarantee notice and GARAN label: what sellers must show from 27 September 2026
Since 27 September 2026, traders selling goods to consumers in the EU must display a harmonised notice reminding them of the legal guarantee of conformity. Its design is fixed by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, and the Commission provides the files in every official EU language.

Official notice files (European Commission)Where to show it
Online shop
- a link such as "Your legal guarantee rights" in the header, on product pages or at checkout;
- the full colour notice opens on the first click or mouse-over, legible at default size;
- a clickable link to the Your Europe guarantees page in the shop's language;
- the notice in the order confirmation email.
Physical shop
- printed at A4 or larger, in colour or black and white;
- at the entrance, on a wall or aisle poster, or at the counter;
- QR code scannable under normal light.
Does a product need the GARAN label?
Only when the producer offers a commercial guarantee of durability that meets all four conditions.
No GARAN label unless all four conditions are met. Do not use it for other guarantees.
Edit the Commission's official label file: only the duration, the brand and the model identifier may change.
Who must show it
Traders that sell goods to consumers, in a shop or online (Article 22a of Directive 2011/83/EU, as amended by Directive (EU) 2024/825). The duty is the seller's: producers have no role for the notice. The rule applies from 27 September 2026, the date the Member States apply the directive.
Use the official files, unchanged
None of the elements of the notice may be edited (Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2025/1960). Download it from the Commission in your customers' language: colour (RGB) for websites, colour or black and white (CMYK) for printing. Do not change colours, fonts, spacing or the QR code, and do not crop, stretch or add anything.
In a physical shop
- print it at A4 size or larger (A3, A2, A1 for bigger shops);
- show it prominently: at the entrance, on a wall or aisle poster, or at the counter;
- keep it legible and the QR code scannable.
Online
The Commission's guidelines suggest a short link such as "Your legal guarantee rights" in the website header, on product pages or at checkout, which shows the full colour notice on the first click or mouse-over. A clickable link to the same page as the QR code (the Your Europe guarantees page in the shop's language) should always be available, and the notice should also go in the order confirmation email. The builder above produces the links and code for each language.
The GARAN label: only for producer durability guarantees
The GARAN label is different. A producer may offer a commercial guarantee of durability; when it is free of charge, covers the entire good and lasts more than two years, the seller must show the GARAN label with that good (Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2025/1960). Only three fields are edited: the duration in years (whole numbers or ,5), the brand and the model identifier.
